3. How to Prepare Your MacBook for Sale
You should prepare your device before you sell it, wide your data, remove all ID’s.
- Step 1 – Back up everything. Use the Time Machine software to backup all your data. Plug in an external drive → System Settings → General → Time Machine) or iCloud. Make sure your photos, documents, desktop files, and any app data are safe before you erase anything.
- Step 2 – Sign out of iCloud. System Settings → [Your Name] at the top → Sign Out. This removes your Apple ID from the device, turns off Find My Mac, and deactivates Activation Lock.
- Step 3 – Sign out of iMessage. Open Messages → Settings → iMessage → Sign Out. If you don’t do this, your iMessages may continue routing to the sold device.
